My family and I just got off the beach. The temperature outside here now is about 95 but we have a breeze blowing.
To answer your questions about the oil spill and Destin beaches as of July 22, 2010, there is no sign of the oil anywhere although BP has a few guys walking up and down the beach looking for tar balls. I did not see anything in their little nets that they use to pick them up.
There is however lots of sea weed and algae in the water but we still were able to swim and have a good time.
Also the beach is packed behind the Destin Pelican Beach Resort and the parking garage is full. A look at other resorts here does not reveal a full house but there are still several guests visiting the other places. I have a friend who owns a unit in Breakers East condo(4 doors down from Pelican) and his unit is on the rental program. He told me his rentals have almost ceased as have most of the units in his complex. Bob also told me everyone knows that the Pelican Beach Resort Destin is one of the most popular family vacation destinations in this part of Florida.
My unit #1004 is on the rental program and has some availability. Just contact me(call or text) if you are interested in booking my unit for your vacation. My cell number is 731-589-7841.
Tomorrow morning we plan to spend a few hours at the Big Kahuana Water Park just across the street from the Pelican Beach Resort.
