Should I cancel My Florida Vacation?

I have had a few calls from people who have booked my Destin Pelican Beach Resort condo and are concerned that they might lose their money if they cancel their vacation because of oil hitting the beach.

This cancellation policy is posted on the Pelican Beach website and let me assure you that no one wants you to lose money if you cancel your Florida vacation because of the oil.

"Gulf of Mexico - Deepwater Horizon Incident Cancellation Policy (5/1/2010)
We are advising all guests of Pelican Beach Management to please wait until closer to your arrival date before cancelling due to the oil spill. If, at that time, it is necessary for you to cancel your reservation because of eminent oil landfall in the Destin area, you will not be charged for a late cancellation. If you are already at Pelican Beach Resort or The Terrace at the time of landfall, you will be refunded any unused portion of your rent if you choose to check-out early.

New Government Site to Show Impact of Oil Spill On Gulf Coast

I just tracked down this new government site that will show the impact the oil spill is having along Florida's beaches.

You have the ability to zoom in by clicking on the plus sign and move the picture right or left. As you can see from today's view, there has not been any oil impacting Destin's beaches but it does appear to have hit around Destin including further east.

To understand the impact you have to click over on the top right on "legend" button.

Oil Spill Scare Causes Pelican Beach to Discount Rate

Normally the 4th of July long weekend is the most expensive time to book a vacation in Destin and at the Destin Pelican Beach Resort.

As you know the oil spill scare is reducing the number of visitors heading to Destin regardless of the fact that no oil has hit the beaches in Destin(as of today June 14th)..

Many have been cancelling their vacation reservations so the Pelican Beach Management company is discounting rates for the 4th of July weekend.

Discounted Rate Because of the Oil Spill Scare

I just had a cancellation at my Destin Pelican Beach Resort unit #1004 on June 23rd for 6 days. Now my calendar is open from June 23rd through the end of June. I would be willing to make someone an incredible deal for a week's stay(7 nights) within this time period.

I had written an earlier post offering to discount the 4th of July week but have decided to take my family on vacation to Destin for that period.

Here is my deal I am offering. Normal price is $1982.46(includes everything). The discounted price for early booking is $1693.86. My oil spill scare discounted rate is $1475. That includes tax and service fee. This is a first come first serve deal and I only have one unit. I(Mike) can be reached at 731-589-7841. You can even text me at this number.

NOAA predicting more westerly flow of oil over next few days

NOAA just came out with its latest projection for the oil slick location over the next few days. NOAA also stated that the oil should have a more westerly flow pattern over the next few days.

This is good for the beaches in Destin and the Destin Pelican Beach Resort. I am seeing people searching the internet for discounted prices because of the oil spill and we are offering discounts of 15-20% for early bookings. Please check my calendar over on the left or check the Pelican Beach website.

I have a couple of weeks open in July including the 4th of July holiday week and would be willing to cut someone a great deal if they contact me. I have a direct number of 731-589-7841. I look forward to hearing from you soon. You can also text me at that same number.

Destin Beaches Still In the Clear

I read an article today in the Destin Log newspaper written by Jeff Masters suggesting that the winds should favor no more easterly flow of oil in next few days or weeks. This would include no oil hitting the Destin area anytime soon.

Here is a link to that article.

The beaches are beautiful as is the weather and now is a great time to book your summer vacation at the Destin Pelican Beach Resort.
